A magnitude 5.7 earthquake has jolted the main island of Japan as Typhoon Hagibis, Typhoon Hagibis made landfall in Japan around 7 p.m. on Saturday, after its outer bands had lashed the country’s eastern coast with heavy rains most of the day and many residents had moved to evacuation centers.

One person died in the Chiba according to NHK , The Public Broadcaster and another died in the prefecture of Gunma.

Rugby World Cup matches, concerts and other events in the typhoon’s path were canceled, while flights were grounded and train services halted. Authorities acted quickly, with warnings issued earlier in the week, including urging people to stay indoors.
